smoothie with edible weeds

Spring has arrived. Nature is providing what we need to detox our body at this time of year.

It does not have to be expensive to detox. This may sound a bit crazy, but edible weeds can help. I do not even have to go far, I forage in my garden. I like the idea of eating weeds and hope to grow resilient like them. I also like the idea of making use of what grows effortlessly and is actually considered useless. It truly feels like a gift from Mother Earth.

I made a smoothie this morning with some edible weeds – Dandelion leaves, Herb Robert (the weed that has small pink flowers later in the year), Parsley. I added some Magnolia petals too, yes they are edible. With one banana and some almonds (soaked overnight) blended together ,I had a delicious breakfast.

Picking the weeds for breakfast feels rather enjoyable. It gives me a reason to spend some time outdoors and connect with Mother Earth. Another way to ground my energy first thing in the morning!

The weeds I pick from the roots, I enjoy saying goodbye to them. It feels like an interesting ritual to help with letting go of what does not serve me anymore!

Sitting down to drink the smoothie mindfully, with my feet firmly planted on the floor and the sitting bones on the chair, it feels like I am plugged into the Earth energy and supported by her.

Loving this way to start my day.

Ending the post with this poem by Rumi, that I did not realise is titled Spring Giddiness till I started looking for it to share with you today :)

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want…..

If you have a favourite recipe with foraged foods, please do share.
